Andhra Pradesh Police arrested four smugglers and seized 158 red sandalwood logs worth Rs 1.91 crore. They also seized a mini lorry, a tractor, and a two-wheeler.

Acting on credible information, police conducted surprise checks on the Prodduturu-Yerraguntla road near Potladurthi village in Kadapa district. They intercepted a mini lorry loaded with red sandalwood logs ready for transport.

“We have so far arrested 4 people. We have also identified the mastermind and other organisers of this crime. We will arrest them also very soon,” said SP Siddharth Kaushal.

A case has been registered, and the investigation is ongoing.

Earlier in March this year, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) seized properties worth Rs 72.45 crore belonging to red sander smuggler Badshah Majid Malik and his associates, including Vijay Subbanna Poojary, in connection with a money laundering case.

The probe agency initiated an investigation based on a complaint filed against Badshah, Vijay and others by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) for smuggling red sanders by submitting forged documents of companies situated at Special Economic Zones.
