July 5, 2024, marks a significant milestone in the history of Indian automotive innovation as Bajaj Auto is set to launch the world’s first CNG motorcycle, which is likely to be called the Freedom 125 as per reports. The bike is poised to revolutionise the two-wheeler market by offering a cleaner, more affordable, and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional petrol-powered bikes.

The Bajaj Freedom 125 boasts a 125cc engine, designed to provide a seamless transition between CNG and petrol fuel options. The riders will be able to switch between the two fuels. This feature is particularly significant in India, where fuel costs are a major concern for the average consumer.

In terms of environmental impact, the CNG motorcycle offers substantial benefits. Compared to gasoline, CNG emissions are significantly lower, be it carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide or non-methane hydrocarbons. The substantial decrease in emissions aligns with the Indian government’s efforts to combat air pollution, particularly in urban areas.

With an expected price range of around Rs 80,000 to Rs 90,000 (ex-showroom), the Bajaj Freedom 125 is positioned to be an attractive option for those seeking an affordable yet eco-friendly mode of transportation. The bike features a single seat.

Bajaj Auto’s foray into CNG technology is not new, the company has already achieved significant success with its CNG-powered three-wheelers, which account for around 60% of the Indian market. The launch of the Bajaj Freedom 125 marks a natural progression into the two-wheeler segment, where the company aims to replicate its success.

The Bajaj Freedom 125 is expected to be launched initially in the Maharashtra market. Bajaj Auto is likely to export the motorcycle as well.
