Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSRCP leader Jagan Mohan Reddy alleged on Thursday that party member Pinnelli Rama Krishna Reddy was arrested on “false charges” of attempted murder.

“They (TDP) are filing false cases, destroying the properties. They are thrashing our people and filing cases against us. Is this unfair?” questioned Jagan Reddy after visiting Rama Krishna Reddy at the Nellore jail on Thursday.

The YSRCP claims the arrest is politically motivated, targeting Rama Krishna Reddy for criticising alleged corruption by the Chandrababu Naidu-led Telugu Desam Party (TDP).

Rama Krishna Reddy was arrested under Section 307 (Attempt to Murder) of the Indian Penal Code and remanded to judicial custody. The party asserted that there was no evidence against Reddy and that he was not present at the crime scene.

The party contends that the arrest is part of a larger conspiracy to silence opposition leaders and accuses the ruling party of using false charges to intimidate and harass political opponents.

YSRCP demanded Reddy’s immediate release and an end to the alleged political vendetta.

Earlier in June, a war of words sparked between the TDP and YSRCP over the demolition of an office of Jagan Reddy’s party in Vijayawada’s Tadepalle district. Soon after the demolition, YSRCP accused Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s party, Telugu Desam Party, of “vendetta politics”.
