The Hunger Games franchise is one of the most popular young adult phenomena of all time.
Adapted from the book series of the same name by Suzanne Collins, the trilogy was made into four films released from 2012 to 2015, grossing nearly $3 billion worldwide.
The books were set in a dystopian future, with North America split into 12 districts, and run by the rich and powerful who live in the Capitol of Panem.
Every year, the Capitol forces each district to select a boy and a girl, called Tributes, to compete in a nationally televised event called the Hunger Games.
Protagonist Katniss Everdeen, 16, volunteers as tribute for the 74th Hunger Games in place of her younger sister, Primrose; setting off a chain reaction that leads to the districts trying to overthrow the Capitol and their oppressors.

Katniss’ classmate Peeta Mallark is chosen as the male tribute and the two go on to win the games together.
However, before the games begin, Peeta confesses his love for Katniss, leading them to navigate their relationship as they fight for their lives in the arena.
The four films starred Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss, Liam Hemsworth as Gale Hawthorne, Josh Hutcherson as Peeta, Woody Harrelson as Haymitch Abernathy, and Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket.
While some characters strayed a little bit from the books’ descriptions, many fans credited the film’s costume designer and makeup artists for keeping the characters in line with the novel.
Now YouTube channel Screen AI has reimagined what the characters should have looked like based on the original source through artificial intelligence.
‘These AI looks accurate to the book make more sense than the actual movie, bravo!’ a fan gushed.
‘Oh my freaking god, the AI characters look SO much better!’ another agreed.
‘I am so upset that AI nailed the casting so well, particularly for Katniss – making her an actual POC. I want Caesar’s jacket too,’ someone else chimed in.

Katniss Everdeen
The series’ protagonist Katniss Everdeen was played by Jennifer Lawrence in the films.
Her character is from the poorest district in Panem, where people regularly die from starvation. So she is often dressed in weathered clothing.
Jennifer’s version of Katniss has pale skin and long dark hair, which is styled in a singular braid. She continues to wear the signature braid as she goes into the arena for the Hunger Games too.
In the books, Katniss is described as having black hair that’s been fashioned into a long braid, olive skin, gray eyes and small in stature with worn-out clothes.
Her AI version looks vastly different from Jennifer Lawrence’s portrayal.
She has a darker skin tone and looks younger, with long braids and sports a denim shirt and pants, whereas the film Katniss wears skirts while she’s still in district 12.

Peeta Mellark
Josh Hutcherson played Peeta Mellark in the films.
Peeta is the male tribute chosen to represent District 12, who admits he has always had feelings for Katniss as they battle in the Hunger Games.
They later embark on a relationship and fall in love.
He is described in the book as having ashy blonde wavy hair, blue eyes, pale skin with a stocky build and long eyelashes.
He’s also described as being small but beautiful.
Josh played Peeta in the film franchise, with slighter darker hair, pale skin and brown eyes. He stands at 5ft 5in and is shorter then Jennifer who is 5ft 9in.
His artificially rendered version has finer features and looks younger, with the main differences being his hair is longer and blonder.

Liam Hemsworth played Katniss’ childhood best friend and hunting partner, who later confesses his love for her – in the films.
In the books, he’s described as having dark hair and olive skin with gray eyes, as well as being ‘too handsome’ and ‘too male.’
Other descriptors say he’s muscular and good looking with a ‘camera ready face.’
Liam has blue eyes and shorter lighter-brown hair, looking vastly different from his artificially generated version.
The digitally rendered Gale has darker skin and longer darker hair with dark brown eyes and a narrower face.

Donald Sutherland plays the fascist dictator President Snow, who leads the counter-revolutionist movement in Panem in the films.
In the books, President Snow is written as a small, thin man, with ‘paper white’ hair, thick lips and eyes ‘similar to a snake.’
Donald’s portrayal and AI’s rendition are not dissimilar; both featuring white hair and facial hair.
The digital render looks slightly older, with more wrinkles on his forehead and under his eyes, which are darker.

Haymitch Abernathy
Haymich Abernathy was the only other person, bar Katniss and Peeta, to win the Hunger Games.
As per the book, Haymich is a ‘paunchy’ middle-aged man who is ‘something’ of a looker.
He’s said to be strong, dark curly hair with bright gray eyes and ‘filthy.’
Haymich is portrayed by Woody Harrelson in the films, who has mid-length blonde hair, blue eyes and pale skin.
He looks very different from the AI-generated version; who has mid-length grey hair and darker skin with blue eyes, also looking older than the film’s version.

Effie Trinket
Effie Trinket is the Capitol escort of the District 12 tributes, she is flamboyant and often ignorant to the plight of the tributes, and represents the wealth of the city.
She is portrayed by Elizabeth Banks in the films, often donning colorful, extravagant outfits, lots of over-the-top makeup and crazy hairstyles.
Her face is painted white in a similar style to Marie Antoinette, the doomed Queen of France.
In the book, Effie is described to be ‘unique and flamboyant,’ with ‘colorful stylized fashion,’ ‘resplendent golden wig’ and a ‘vacant’ look in her eyes.
Her AI render looks a lot younger and has a a crazy mane of bright orange hair. She is wearing a gaudier outfit than Elizabeth’s film portrayal and her makeup is brighter and more childish.

Primrose Everdeen
Primrose Everdeen is the younger sister of Katniss and is played by Willow Shields.
She is 12 in the first book of the series, which is the youngest age someone can be drawn from the lottery as a tribute for the Hunger Games, but Katniss volunteers in her place.
In the film, Primrose is small in stature, with light brown hair, brown eyebrows, brown eyes and pale skin.
In the book, she’s described as having a face as ‘fresh as a raindrop, with fair skin, blonde hair and blue eyes.’
She’s also small in stature, ‘as lovely as a primrose.’
The AI version of Primrose has bright blue eyes and lighter features.
She also has long blonde hair which she wears in two braids, as opposed to Willow’s lighter brown hair.

Finnick Odair
Finnick Odair was one of the male victor from District 4 and one of the youngest winners after winning the Hunger Games at 14, played by Sam Claflin in the films.
He later forms an alliance with Katniss in the Third Quarter Quell, a round of the Hunger Games where past winners were forced to compete against each other.
The book talks often about Finnick’s handsomeness, describing him as ‘athletic and chiseled’ with tanned skin, bronze hair and ‘stunning sea-green eyes.’
The film portrayal was similar to the description, with the AI version featuring a more chiseled jawline and more tanned.

Alma Coin
Alma Coin, played by Julianne Moore, is the commander of the rebels and president of District 13 of Panem.
The district was thought to be destroyed by the Capitol during the first rebellion.
In the book Alma is described as being about 50, with smooth gray shoulder length hair, and gray and pale eyes.
The main difference between Julianne’s version and the artificially rendered one is the hair style.
Julianne’s character had longer hair with a whiter streak at the front, while her AI counterpart’s reached above the shoulders, was straight and silvery grey.

Cressida
Cressida, played by Natalie Dormer, is a film director who grew up in the Capitol, but later turned into a soldier, abandoning the city to relocate to District 13.
She has a shaved bald head with vivid green vines tattooed.
The biggest difference between her AI version and film counterpart is that the latter has only shaved half her head.

Caesar Flickerman
Caesar Flickerman, played by Stanley Tucci, is the host for the Hunger Games, responsible for interviewing tributes the night before they begin.
He is very flamboyant and wears flashy suits.
In one instance, he is described in the books as wearing pure white makeup and a ‘ceremonial midnight blue suit,’ dotted with a ‘thousand tiny electric bulbs.’
The AI rendition of Caesar doesn’t look unlike Stanley’s film portrayal, with the AI version slightly older with finer features.
