‘Kalki 2898 AD’ completed a week’s (extended) run at the box office, and it made every day count. The film has crossed Rs 400 crore nett in India and is already riding over Rs 700 crore gross worldwide. Starring Prabhas, Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan in the lead, it has created many new records in all versions at both the global and domestic box office.

The Nag Ashwin-directorial has emerged as the second-biggest film of Prabhas’s career, only behind ‘Baahubali 2’. After registering a strong opening, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ went on to wrap its first weekend at around Rs 309 crore in India. It is now looking to achieve a staggering Rs 500 crore nett business by the end of its second weekend. Once it reaches that benchmark, it will only be the eighth Indian film ever to cross Rs 500 crore nett in India alone. The ultimate goal for the film is to enter the coveted Rs 1000 crore club at the box office worldwide, which will make it only the seventh film in the history of Indian cinema to cross Rs 1000 crore worldwide.

Here are the records that ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ has made in its first week at the box office:

  1. Biggest first week for a Hindi film in 2024: ‘Kalki’ Hindi collected Rs 162.8 crore in its first week in India. It has surpassed the first week business of ‘Fighter’ which collected Rs 146.5 crore in week 1.
  2. Biggest Indian film of 2024 in India and worldwide: ‘Fighter’ was the highest-grossing Indian film of the year so far after collecting Rs 358.89 crore worldwide. ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ has crossed this figure in folds. The makers announced that the film grossed over Rs 700 crore on its sixth day itself.
  3. Highest footfalls for a film in 2024: ‘HanuMan’ recorded the highest footfalls for an Indian film in 2024. It was a surprise hit and recorded 1.44 crore footfalls, followed by ‘Fighter’ with 1.17 crore footfalls. ‘Kalki’ admitted 2 crore people in theatres in six days.
  4. The second-biggest grosser for Prabhas after Baahubali 2: ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ has surpassed ‘Baahubali 1’ and ‘Salaar-Part I: Ceasefire’ to become the second-highest grossing film of Prabhas’s career. ‘Baahubali: The Beginning’ earned Rs 650 crore globally during its lifetime run, while ‘Salaar’ ended at Rs 617.75 crore gross. ‘Kalki’, as mentioned by the makers, is rising over Rs 700 crore.
  5. The 8th all-time highest-grossing Indian film ever: Within its first week itself, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ has entered the list of top 10 highest-grossing Indian films of all-time at the global box office. It is currently the top 8th film after ‘Baahubali 2’, ‘KGF 2’, ‘RRR’, ‘Jawan’, ‘Animal’, ‘Pathaan’, and ‘Dangal’.
  6. The 4th highest-grossing South Indian film at the worldwide box office: ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, which was originally a Telugu film, is only the fourth highest-grossing South Indian film worldwide after ‘Baahubali 2’, ‘KGF 2’ and ‘RRR’ in the order. ‘Kalki’ week 1 box office records: 6 staggering achievement of Prabhas’s film.

It will be interesting to see how many more records ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ creates at the box office from here. Right now, both the makers and the audience are looking forward to its performance during the second weekend which begins today.
