Fletch and Hindy have grilled Bulldogs superstar Matt Burton on his infamous “flat Earther” comments, forcing the five-eighth to explain his reasoning behind the claims in a hilarious segment on The Late Show with Matty Johns.

Speaking on the Let’s Trot podcast in January with Josh Mansour, Burton made a startling admission: “like, it’s round. But it’s obviously flat because, if it was … I don’t know”.

After asking halfback Toby Sexton the differences between Belmore and Burleigh Heads following his move from the Titans, Bryan Fletcher then turned the questioning to Burton.

“It’s amazing how flat it is between Belmore and Dubbo,” Fletcher said.

“Oh f***, are we going down this route,” Burton replied.

Hilariously, Fletcher then asked “Burto, you’re fair dinkum, you’re a flat Earther. Why do you think the earth is flat?”

And for Burton’s explanation?

“Apparantely someone with a lazer was looking in this distance, a scientist, they could see the mountains but apparently it was down here on a map,” he said.

“So they could see it so that’s why I thought it was flat.”

Makes sense, right?

Meanwhile, Nathan Hindmarsh turned his attention to Sexton, having revealed his family’s dog had sadly passed away the night before filming the interview.

Hindmarsh asked head coach Cameron Ciraldo if he had any doubts about any of his signings ahead of the 2024 season, to which Sexton replied: “That’s like the dog, it’s too soon”.

From there, Hindmarsh was prepared and had been informed of a story by Sexton’s halves partner Burton.

“Would too soon be, if I was to go on a date with a girl, first time I’ve ever met this girl and I think ‘this is love’. Then all of a sudden two, three days later,” Hindmarsh said.

“I’ve invited her back to my family home to meet my parents.”

Ciraldo chimed: “I’ve seen it… or I’ve heard about it”.

Hindmarsh then pressed Sexton: “Is it love?”

“Yeah, one of the boys were in that situation. Someone I knew was in that situation, yeah it might have been me or it might not have been me,” Sexton said.

“There’s a connection there?” Hindmarsh replied.

“I thought (she) was the one, yeah,” Sexton said.

Fletch then asked: “And is it no more?”

Sexton confirmed he was no longer involved with his love interest before explaining: “I probably thought I moved a bit too fast too soon.”

“First week in Sydney, I was just trying to get to know the area, I thought it was love. I’d never had a girlfriend before… I’ve been rattled since.”
